POLISH TONGUE TWISTER MEANING - TABLE WITH BROKEN LEGS - METAPHORICAL
LAZY WAY - Stół bez nóg
This Mural is a reflection of my Polish heritage and a fun play on words. The Polish tongue twister “stół z powyłamywanymi nogami” meaning a table with broken legs is a metaphor. This is my favorite Polish tongue twister is it often used for teaching Polish children (or rather it’s a favorite with adults who enjoy using it to torture children). As you can see, the difficulty here lies not in the sequence of specific difficult Polish sounds, but rather in the middle part of the ‘powyłamywanymi’ word – a source of eternal fun. This is equal to the English language “break a leg.”

NIE WYWOŁUJ WIŁA Z LASU- MEANING…
Not crying wolf·
Where the sleeping dogs lie
This piece was inspired by the OG Slavic/Pagan story of Red Riding Hood and Baba Yaga with Polish influences and aesthetics. My Grandparents and Father would tell me these stories growing up, and for me they’re important to my Polish heritage and how I remanence parts of my childhood – the wonder, curiosity, and imagination. Prior to the Christian influence on Poland, Poland was a pagan country like many of the surrounding areas as well. With that knowledge it Is without surprise that the OG stories of Red Riding Hood and many others alike are gruesome and bloody. Much like the brothers’ grim stories before they were Disney-fied and watered down. This Piece, Nie wywołuj wiła z lasu is a part of a series of many pieces of work that are inspired by my Polish heritage and has given me a chance to find my own voice within my work through my heritage and inspirations from my family and culture. Much of these inspirations are from my Great Grandmother who lived to be 104 and came over to the US during WWII at 16 by herself leaving her family and 5 siblings back in Poland. She taught us all what it meant to be polish, but what this body of work has done for me was teach me what it meant to be polish for myself – and what that means to me.
Amy Winehouse
This was a tribute to one of my favorite artists Amy Winehouse, one of my favorite songs by her is Me & Mr Jones.
